Nicole Richie announces she is engaged

Nicole Richie seems set to tie the knot with her boyfriend Joel Madden after being snapped wearing an engagement ring.

She was spotted wearing an enormous diamond ring on her wedding ring finger just after Valentine's Day.

Shooting to fame on the reality TV show The Simple Life, Nicole was filmed carrying out several different mundane jobs, with fellow socialite Paris Hilton.

But while Paris has tried her hand at a pop career and being an actress, Nicole has opted instead to design her own range of clothes called Winter Kate.

Her new sparkler was seen peeking out from underneath her coat sleeve as she went out for dinner with her new fiance in New York.

The adopted daughter of the singer Lionel Richie, Nicole has been dating Joel for three years and the couple have two children together.

Their son, who is imaginatively named Sparrow, was born in September and has an older sister, two-year-old Harlow.
