Coronation Street gets first disabled character

The cobbles of Coronation Street are set to see their first disabled character joining the cast full time.

Although there have been wheelchair users on the street before, Cherylee Huston will be the first permanent character to have a disability.

Playing the feisty Izzy, she will arrive on our screens in April as the new love interest of the hapless Kirk Sutherland.

The pair are set to meet on an online dating website, but reports reveal that it will not be love at first sight for the couple.

TV fans may already recognise Cherylee, as the actress has previously appeared on programmes such as Emmerdale and in several episodes of daytime show Doctors as Belle Hutchinson.

There are set to be plenty of gripping storylines coming to Coronation Street soon, including the dramatic plot around the demise of Gail Platt's new husband Joe McIntyre, who drowned while trying to fake his own death as part of an insurance scam.
