Blue Peter's Helen Skelton kayaks the Amazon

Blue Peter presenters are known for their daring and amazing tasks, but not many would have gone as far as Helen Skelton.

The children's TV host has kayaked the length of the Amazon River in order to raise cash for the Sports Relief appeal and may have broken two world records in the process.

Complaining of sore muscles and mosquito bites, the 26-year-old said that she is proud of her war wounds.

As well as completing the 2,010 km distance, Helen is also the first woman to ever achieve this feat and may have sealed a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the longest solo journey by kayak and the longest distance in a kayak in 24 hours by a woman.

Other celebrities to get stuck in and raise cash for this year's charity event include The One Show's Christine Bleakley, who is going to water ski the English Channel and expectant mums including Denise Van Outen, who walked a mile around London's Battersea Park.
