Babyshambles reforming
The drummer Adam Ficek who plays for Babyshambles has promised that The Libertines will re-form. Three of the four members of The Libertines recently played in a tribute show in London for their former promoter Johnny Sedassy. Their bassist was absent, but according to reports he was in a different country while the rest of the band played a set of classics.
Ficek told BBC 6 that despite the temperamental history between Carl Barât and Pete Doherty he lets them just get on with it. In the past it was Barât who had turned down reforming the band, even with the offer of vast sums of money and several calls from Doherty urging him too.
The recent session which took place at the Rhythm Factory was the first time that both Barât and Doherty had been on stage together with their former drummer Gary Powell since the break of the band in 2004.
It was in 1997 that the band first met, through their collective creative abilities and shared a passion for writing music and The Smiths. Barât and Doherty both left their courses in London and moved into a flat together. In 2001 Gary Powell was recruited to play drums and they were officially signed on the 21st December. Their first album ‘Up the Bracket’ was finally released and reached number 29 in the charts. Meanwhile the band became support acts for Morrissey and the Sex Pistols.
In 2003 there were increased problems for the banned, most notably Doherty’s drug habits and tensions grew between him and Barât. The band were to depart in 2004.
