Alexa Chung 'best-dressed woman'

Alexa Chung has been named the best-dressed woman of 2009 by Vogue.

The fashion magazine has chosen the former model and TV presenter, famous for her unique indie look, as the queen of style this year.

Currently living New York, presenting It’s On With Alexa Chung for American MTV, things are certainly looking good for the pretty star.

Other British beauties to have made the list include X Factor judge Cheryl Cole and Harry Potter actress Emma Watson, who is also the face of fashion brand Burberry.

But it's not just the spring chicks that have made the grade, with first ladies Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy both showing that you can still look elegant into middle age.

Student supermodel Lily Cole was nowhere to be seen on the list, which is perhaps unsurprising after she turned up to a screening of her movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus wearing a brown pin-stripe suit and matching thigh-length boots.
